Should i keep it or swap it out. Ive never drivin a jeep with out it so im not sure if ill loose any power/mpg with out it. Im still a noob but try to do some offroading with friends when i can. My concern was sucking in mud n water when blowing through puddles. Last time out i did notice the filter was getting wet so ended up slowing down through the mud and water which wasnt asl fun.
the only thing i'd lean towards is putting a drop in KN filter into a stock airbox. There is still a lot of debate with this as well but my personal experience hasnt given me any negatives with this.
I've run a drop in KN filter for the last 7k or so and have had zero buildup of any dust, dirt, or anything inside the intake tube (took it all apart a few days ago)
This is my daily driver so i do city as well as offroad/trails...rarely do i do any highway but yeah, no buildup of any kind. I cleaned it before putting the drop in filter in as well just so i could tell what was being let through...
This is just me but I did have that in my 98 wrangler (4.0L I6). I was 17 and thought it was cool. Basically anytime I went offroading in wet environments or deep mud my jeep would stall out. Let it sit for the night and it would start up the next day. My opinion would be to sell it and go back to the stock air box. I ended up taking mine off the 98 and put the stock one back on and never had issues after switching back. Sold it to my buddy with an XJ and got $150 back for it lol idk what I initially paid but more than that lol. Just my 2 cents though
ide keep the AEM for DDing but defiantly swap back to the stock for offroading. Thats exactly what i plan to do for mine since an exposed filter is just it stupid for offroad. Water splashes everywhere in our engine bays and the box filter keeps it clean and dry unless the water level can creep into its drain holes.
If you decide to sell the aem I might be interested. We are looking at a second jeep to become my daily driver, my powerstroke is just too expensive for when i'm not pulling right now. So if you decide to move it shoot me a pm please sir.
