My Jeep let me down for the first time today..

As the title states, she let me down. Which brings me to a few questions I hope you all can answer. So this morning going to work it started up just fine and ran like the champ it is. But when I go into fivestar to get some breakfast and come back out, it wont start. All the gauges are jumping back and forth, the RPM gauge even goes all the way around, complete circle until it hits that little stopper thing. My dad had alternator and battery checked about a week ago when it did this same thing to him and they both checked good. It will start when it has jumper cables hooked to it, but have to keep the gas on for a little while kind of like warming it up. But it never needs that. When it did it to my dad, it only happened that one time and then it ran fine for a whole week, now back to the same problem. Sorry for so much typing I just dont want to leave anything out and hope yall can understand what I am trying to say. Oh and now the check gauges light is on. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds like a bad connection at the battery.... loose cable somewhere.... start wiggling!

X2. Even though they look clean and tight, this is the most likely problem. Either a bad connection, or a bad battery. Please disconnect the battery, REMOVE it, and use a wire brush on the terminals AND the connectors.

The reason I suggest removing the battery is to ensure there's nothing underneath causing the short.

Search around, and google this. You'll find our advice is the common solution.

Hope this helps,
Chuck

I recommend cleaning all the ground points in the engine bay, too.

I've recently had speedo-needle jumping issues and the current theory is a bad coil arcing over to PCM wiring instead of arcing through the spark plugs. Just my 2c.
