My New Baby :)

So I'm finally part of the Wrangler TJ club. I'm so glad you guys talked me out of the other one I was going to buy, and I found this right by my house. I was like a kid on christmas going to pick it up today, and it's been worse since I want to do nothing but go drive and I have two midterms tomorrow and a paper due I'm going from driving fast coupes (and Fords mind you) all my life, to this, so it's a considerable change.
  • 1999 4.0L v6
  • $6000 even
  • hardtop w/ bimini top
  • manual 5-spd, with cruise control
  • upgraded audio system

The Bad
  • Hate chrome, so the front and rear bar will have to be painted or just go.
  • The seat covers are hideous
  • There are a few spiders nests around it, i can live with that
  • hood pins are rusted and don't function
  • few paint chips, and the drivers side door doesn't quite match
  • some squeak from the steering wheel
  • few rust spots I'll sand and repair
  • hitch is locked and the owner didn't have key
  • center console inside is cut out w/ holes
  • exhaust tip looks tacky
  • whistling sound at 30mph-50mph, I think from the CAI

Other then that, I'm in absolute love with the car. It looks great in my opinion, and I can't wait to see the Jeeps full potential. Tomorrow I'm taking it home and going to start working on what I can, probably touching up the fender flares and then working on the light covers that are peeling.

Looks great! how many miles?

I can never understand what some people do to their jeeps, like whats with the seat covers, shift boot and shifter?? And hood pins?!?

Welcome to the Jeep world and the forum, there are some great people on here and this site is amazingly helpful!

The seat covers were apparently a gift. Red and black is definitely not my thing, and the boot doesn't have the proper bracket to keep it in place - so that's gonna get replaced with OEM. The hood pins would be cool... if they worked but at least the mounting holes are there so I can just replace 'em later. The seat covers cover up some great looking seats, so they'll go tomorrow. There was also a steering wheel cover that had to go. Mileage is a sore subject, 120,000 but it runs strong and the person who owned it before the guy who sold to me was a mechanic who took good care of it. Plus, I like working with my hands, and having a stable platform like the wrangler and the support of numerous others will be some fun

But yea, I don't get what some people do to their jeeps lol. I'll have her fixed up in no time haha.

The steering wheel squeak is probably the rubber boot. You can get to it from right under the dash - hit it with some clear silicone grease and it will be fine.

120k is nothing on these motors btw. Get bigger front and rear bumpers -- rear with a tire carrier built in. Ohh Check your rear axle to see if you have the Dana 44 or the Dana 35. If it has a rubber fill plug is the the dana 35 not so good. If it has the metal plug your golden!!!! Great looking jeep now get to work!

Haven't checked it yet, but from talking to the guy, I am pretty sure it's a Dana 35. Not the worst thing I wasn't planning on lifting or upsizing the tires too much. But I'm hoping it's the 44 axle

I'm definitely looking into something more black in terms of bumpers, any suggestions?

Nah, they're really only good for the lower end torque. You have to get the add on StreetGlow decals to unlock the FULL HP POTENTIAL>>>!!! Of course, if you act now and pick up the rear hardtop SPOILER! then you actually can get enough downforce to save you... I don't know about 666 mpg?

Nice deal on the Jeep.

The fashion trend on bumpers is black and square angle - not tubes.

That's just fashion - the chrome tubes work just as well. There are hundreds of options, from national manufacturers (check out the Highrock stuff from this company called Bestop) and local guys who are good with welders.

You can also go minimal and remove the tubes and just go with some straight metal stuff.

just sold her today because I don't deserve a Jeep apparently...

This weekend I'll be in overdrive (no pun intended) and will be working on everything that's a problem.

I'm thinking this might actually include a clutch replacement, which I've got no experience with. So, if someone is in the South Jersey/North Pennsylvania area and wants to help a fellow owner out, I've got your choice of beer, a few bucks, and two extra hands.
