I paid $3200 for the Jeep delivered to Chicago from Grand Rapids. I had 198,000 miles on it. I have a heated garage so it became a two winter project. Had it far enough along by spring to trailer it to the UP of Michigan for the summer and start shaking bugs out of it. Trailered it back to Chicago this fall and am back at finishing it.

This was not what I would call a financially successful project, but I had a ton of fun! I learned so much working on the Jeep and from members of this forum. This winter I had the trans rebuilt, front and rear axles rebuilt, (yes, it is still a Dana 35 in the rear) 4.56 gears installed, and we put a rebuilt ATK engine in. Seats are original and the fronts have been rebuil and reupholstered, frame was ground and coated in POR 15, front axle has new lower control arm mounts from Blue Torch Fab Works, new Skyjacker 4" lift, all new pads and rotors, a Rugged Ridge cross over tie rod assembly,(stilll trying to find the dead spot in the steering, I like this unit) Adjustable track bar up front, all new stainless brake lines, Rhino linered the entire interior floor, Warn gas tank skid plate, Banks Monster Cat Back, both front fenders and rear door replaced, ARB front bumper with Warn winch, Smitty Built XRC rear bumper, Sony GT550 stereo and new Kicker Speakers all the way around, tons of body labor and numerous other small parts and accesories.

You did a real nice job! What wheels are those and how much would you say total you have invested? How'd you fix the rust in the back? Cut and replace or just repaint and put corner guards on?

The wheels are Ion Alloy. I got the reccomendation from a Sales Guy at Quadratec. He had them on his Jeep. Great choice, I am very happy with them. The rear corner rust I cut a square out with an air cutting tool, welded, welded in a patch, coated everything with rust preventative, primered and riveted the corner guard on. I have right around $15K into it plus the purchase price. I could have done a lot better buying a newer and cleaner TJ and lifting and building it up, but I loved the challenge once I got into it.

I was looking through old posts about rear corner armor and this came up and noticed you said you primed then put the cover on the rear corner. I hope you painted the primer because primer absorbs water.

I actually coated all areas under the corner guards with POR 15. I sort of assumed water would get in between the corner guard and the tub. Thought POR would be the best solution. Time will tell. Thanks for the comments. That is what I love about this forum. So much good input.

My corners are rusting too and I was thinking about doing exactly what you did. Por-15 and corner guards.
