need a new muffler

so as i was cleaning the jeep today i was just checking everything out under neath and unfortunately it wasnt. i noticed a rust hole in the catalytic converter. the hole is probably the size of a AA battery. i have been wanting to get a new muffler anyway and the jeep obviously knew because it gave me an opportunity to upgrade!

well i was wondering what is a good muffler and cat. to get. im wanting something fairly inexpensive but good quality. and also is this a hard project to tackle. i would like to save some money and do it myself if possible

thanks for any replies

It's funny you posted this, cause I just got back from getting a new exhaust. I had the cat cut off and new pipe run from the front to the back, and went with a Flowmaster 40 series...it sounds good. I had the same thing on my JK, but it wasn't as loud as it is with the TJ. I am going to put a new cat on, and probably will go with Magnaflow.

I cannot stand the sound of my flowmaster on my jeep. Did you get bigger tailpipe or is it the same size. Im debating chopping the pipe off after my exhaust but don't know exactly how loud it will be

I like the sound of the banks system but I have hear the magnaflow and it sounded pretty good too. Personal preference I guess. Go to youtube and listen to the different types is your best bet.

The tailpipe looks just a bit bigger than the stock one. The 50 series is a little more quiet.

At idle mine sounds amazing but highway or accelerating it Is kinda higher pitched. But I think it could have something to do with the tail pipe being the stock size

I might be....they didn't bend the tail pipe to the degree of the stock pipe....
