Well I was going to be smart and replace plugs in my 05 tj. I thought the plugs were on the right side(looking at motor from front). From reading I thought this would be the coil pack, counted six boots. I took the bolts out and pulled the long rod off and there are no spark plugs, what in the world did I just rip off my motor? Wow...no need for names I have already thoght of plenty.
mine is a 99 so im still using a distributor but on the right side of mine is the fuel rail, not exactly "boots" on them but there are 6, did it smell like fuel?
It is a long round rail next to the carb. It has what I call six boots with connectors on each boot. The ends that I now have exposed look like they are flarred. I figured out where the plugs are now........the rail will not go back in, as the middle has a gasket missing. How screwed am I?
The rail you removed on the driver's side is the fuel rail that connects to the fuel injectors. That object you called the carburetor is the throttle body, since your Jeep is fuel injected and doesn't have a carburetor.
The spark plugs are on the passenger-side of the block, there is a long black coil rail with rubber boots protruding out of the bottom of it that are positioned over the spark plugs. Once the bolts are off that secure the coil rail in place, it is carefully lifted straight off from the spark plugs underneath, the rubber boots are kind of tight around the plugs so you have to give it a pretty good tug.
Since I took the fuel injector rail off how in the hell do I get it back on.....they have changed jeeps since my cj7, but I figured what the heck, it's a jeep. Got me good, but again how do I get the rail back on. The injectors have o rings that will not POP back in....
I've had the fuel rail off a number of times and never had problems getting the o-rings seated. The o-rings remain on the top of the fuel injectors, the fuel rail seats over the top of them by simply carefully pushing it on so it seats over all six injectors simultaneously.
Okay Jerry, slow down a bit. The o rings are on the injectors or whatever it is I pulled out. When I try to seat them back I can stll see the o ring. The rod was hard to pull out but after I try and push it back in it does not seem to seat, it is now easy to pull back out. Does tightening the bolts do the trick?
You can apply a small amount of clean engine oil to each injector o-ring. This will aid in installation.
