Lightbulb need help choosing which motor!!!

hey guys im actually new to this forum. i just got a jeep not to long ago and its an SE and with the stuff im doing to the jeep the 2.5l 4 cylinder just cant handle all that. Im swapping the motor and i been thinking about a 4.0l 6 cylinder rubicon motor which is an ease to swap, a 6.0 LS corvette motor, or an srt 8 motor, there is also the 5.7L hemi motor... i really dont know what to do. the only motor that is jeep with the trans and everything is the stock 4.0l 6 cylinder motor everything else starts to get alittle pricey!!! need some thoughts in what u guys think...

I would go for the 5.7 but if money was an issue I would look at a 5.9. Either way I would use a Chrysler motor but I am a Mopar freak and wouldn't have it any other way. Just my 2 cents.

I would probably say it's just as hard to swap in a 4.0L than a V8. Have you researched the swap? It would seem like a simple swap but it's not, just about everything is different, you'll need a new computer, wiring, motor mounts will have to be cut off and re welded, and so many other things are different. If you have A/C the lines will be too long, same with the power steering, and all the coolant hoses, fan shroud, the list goes on. At that point your better off with a V8 or something else.

I doubt the HEMI or Vette motor will fit but the SRT8 will. As far as a winch goes, I'd go with a WARN. Whatever kind is up to you. There VR sereies is inexpensive and great quality. I myself will purchase you down the road. Hope that helped and Welcome to Wrangler Forum

thanks guys and yeah i been reading about the 4.0l and everyone says its easy... i didnt know i had to do all that shit to it!!! if im gonna do all that i might as well go v8...

The SRT8 motor is a 6.1 Hemi and it is the same size as the 5.7 so they should fit fine. The Vette engine should fit also. I have seen a 454 bigblock in a Jeep so it is possably to do but I'm not saying that it will be easy. But if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

I have been really thinking about doing a V8 swap myself. I won't be able to do it for a year or more, but I have already been doing a lot of research. Check this website out (Novak Conversions - General Engine Conversion Options), they have some good information about which motor to choose and whats involved in the swap. Also, think about the fact that you will probably want to replace that dana35 with a V8 conversion.

Yea I was about to say that too. None of that made sense.

The SRT8 IS a Hemi. People have been swapping in 350's, LS1's, LS2's and Hemi's in wranglers for years now. There are kits that you can buy to make it easier too. AEV does Hemi installs, as well as Burnsville Offroad. Also Burnsville Offroad has options to install up to a 7.0L Hemi for a measily $34K!! 600hp Wrangler anyone?

From what I have read it is better to go with the truck version Hemi out of a Ram 1500. It's also got a few more horsepower than the car 5.7L. Runs on regular gas unlike the SRT8 6.1L that requires Premium.

thanks guys i wish i had some help. it just seems like alot for me to be doing my self. and my jeep motor is from a 2002 wrangler se its a 2.5l 4 cylinder. motors beyond perfect the motor was rebuilt when the car had 89,000 miles and it just hit 100,000 miles so its like new
