The receiver racks are a good option and in my opinion a must for a TJ. However, like Majnoon said, they can/will hinder you offroad. I recently decided to add a "rock/trail rack" to the Jeep to free up some space inside (cooler, lunch bag, etc) while on the trail. I decided to make my own vs buying one (modeled it after the rock hard 4x4 rock rack). Quadratec and other vendors have a variety of rack options to choose from. Here's a link to Qtec's rack choices
So far with the receiver rack I've been able to manage all the stuff (including camping gear) for my wife, our dog, and myself without a problem. Once we get to the camp site, I drop the receiver rack and lock it to a tree or something with a cable lock and then put it back on when it is time to load everything back up and head home.
