Need help finding a thread. Deadening the soundbar

Hey guys. Of course I do alot of reading here thanks to everybody's input. I was reading something the day before, and someone in the thread post a "write up" on someone using sound deadening material in the sound bar to help speaker performance. I can't remember how I go there, and I didn't bookmark the page. I've done quit a few searches this morning, but I can't find that thread or write up.

Anybody have any ideas?

You only need to stuff the speaker openings with polyester (polyfil) pillow stuffing which any yardage store sells in big bags. Car stereo shops sell the same stuff at 10-20X the price.

A lot of guys her suggest "polyfill", which is pillow-stuffing sold at a craft store. Just loosely fill the speaker cavity, remount, and (some say) it significantly improves what you get out of the stock speakers.

I made some comments in a recent thread about it. I just did my entire jeep with sound deadening material, including the sound pods. Couple of things.....I bought the polyfill from a craft store and used in my sub box. However...when putting in the pods (my pods have dome lights) I try to see if the polyfil would burn and it did rather easily. That made me nervous should the done light stay on for a long time. So..I just used some of my other material from the rest of the jeep and I think it sounds fine. The material I used was like Dynamat only better....two products from a company called RAAMaudio...used the aluminum sheet stuff topped off with sticky foam material called ensolite. Good luck wih whatever direction you take.

Maybe it's just my aging hearing but with all the above said and done and with me having installed Polyfil behind my various automotive speakers, I could never tell any difference in sound quality afterwards.

Still reading through that thread, but some people swear by it, others don't see a difference. Seems more the TJ folks are with it, but doesn't seem to effect the JK's that much.

To me, for $10, I'll give it a try. I'm just wondering if the effect is mostly with the top/doors on. When I'm topless, the sound just shoots out the back anyway. But we'll see.

You'd be overspending if you spent $10, just go pick some up at the local yardage shop where it's cheap and the exact same stuff as the car audio shops use.

Easy Sally. I was just throwing out a price. I have no idea what I'm going to spend, but because my 13yr is starting to get into sewing, we frequent a place by our house. I was just going to run in there and buy a bag.

A yardage shop? What's that exactly? Like thrift store?

I was thinking about using this product call "Great Stuff" foam that comes in a can. I used this for my sound systems when I did mine years ago.

Unless you have a 13rd old daughter, then it becomes a rugged middle-aged mans store.
