I took my Jeep to the dealer (Hillview motors in Greensburgh, PA) because I was loosing coolant told them I thought I blew the head gasket. At first they said it was the radiator wich I just replaced with a aftermarket one. I bought one from them and put it in and took the other one back to the parts store. I drove for 1 more week still losing fluid. Took it back they said it was due to a air pocket in the line. Drove it one more week, still loosing fluid. Took it back in this time they said I had I cracked head which they replaced under warranty and changed the oil.

This time I picked it up drove half way home about 20 miles and my jeep start bucking and the engine started making a loud :eek:loud rapping :crash:metal on metal noise:zap:. Next day I checked the oil and it was black and felt real gritty like metal was in it so I called them and had it towed back in. Now after they had it for 2 days I called them and was told all they found so far was bad gas in it:confused:.

Has anyone ever heard of bad gas causing a problem like this. I heard of it causing a injetctor to tick, but this noise is definately worse I mean metal to metal bang bang bang noise:crash::zap::flipoff:.
I appreciate any help.

hey mud, definately sounds to me like internal engine parts, like everyone has said, bearings etc. but here's what i'm more worried about, the people looking at your jeep. i'm a mechanic and shop manager, and from your description, the people diagnosing your coolant leak, and then further problems aren't doing a good job. misdiagnosing a radiator is unacceptable, a trained technician can see if a radiator is leaking or not, with no questions. an AIR POCKET can cause overheating, later causing coolant to overflow, but will not just leak, if they did their job right there would be no air in system, and that is a classic "i dunno" blow off. and BAD GAS cannot make metal shavings in your oil, and it can't make as extreme noises as you're describing. which is another classic blow off.
unfortanely in this business, there are people that shouldn't be working on other peoples cars, and just cuz its the dealer doesn't mean the mechanic is good.
so they say all they can find is bad gas, (which is so rare now days almost never happens), do they say it is running ok?
hope i didn't tick anyone off, hope YOU don't have to pay for an engine job.
sorry to rant on, but sensitive issue to me when unqualified people are allowed to do this work, and ultimately cost customers lots of money and time.

What does your oil pressure gauge read when the motor is running? If you have a bad bearing, I would expect to see little or no oil pressure and the "check gauges" alarm should be annuciating.

O.k I All ready figured they dealership is idots, but what other choice is there unless I pay a arm and a leg to have my whole engine rebuilt at a private garage. If I take it to a different dealership will they honor my warranty since jeep screwed my engine up so bad. The one I took it to is supposed to be the best in my area. I know the three dealerships in my area all work with each other, but if the best one screwed it up so bad, I don't think I want to try the others or know if I will just end up doing the same thing.
When they call me to pick it up I'm going to take iit for a drive, since they didn't even test drive it the last time pulled in with 81867 miles on it and after they had it for a week the odmeter read 81868. If it still Isn't fixed what legal action can I take,

Still waiting to hear from them since last time I called on thursday and they said all they found was bad gas. I guess they might of found something else since they had it all day friday and never called me to pick it up. They tried to charge me a deductible the last time, but I told them I wasn't paying since I paid $99.00 in labor for the previous to times I brought it in and they never fixed it right.
By the way my oil pressure and thermistat never showed anything out of the ordinary. My jeep never overheated the oil pressure usually ran at 60 unless idling and it would be around 40. It ran fine except coolant mysteriously dissapearing until they fixed the head, but by then I think the damage was already done.
I know they will get it fixed eventually, but I don't want to end up taking it back 10 more times for them to get it right.

O.k I got a update yesterday from jeep. They are going to replace my whole motor due to damage caused by the main bearing going bad due to coolant getting into the engine block. They are just waiting for the corporate rep. to come and give the go ahead since it is such a costly repair.:flipoff:

I asked if it would be covered under my warranty and they said yes. I can't see how they can deny it since I told them the first time what I thought was wrong and had to take it to them 3 more times to get it fixed :flipoff: and they covered the head and gasket under warranty.

So if they would just listen to us dedicated jeepers they could of saved my engine, instead it is costing them roughly $2500. to fix:rofl:
