need help...starting to get really annoying

so a while ago i had a dead battery, went to advanced auto got a new battery, ever since then my tj struggles to start....

turn the key...clicking noise, the noise doesnt repeat itself just clicks once and then stops, you can literally hold the key there and itll click once and then nothing

turn the key to off postion..and then try again and then it starts...BUT sometimes it takes as much as 10 times of doing this for it start..bad starter?

i checked the connections on the battery, they are all tight any suggestions?

are you sure cables are good and all connections to starter? Just a guess. I am assuming that when you recycle the key it starts? Would lead me to think wiring issue and not component-also cheaper to change cables than say a starter or ignition switch or a relay.

I would try they cylinoid first and see if that could be it , just sounds like a bad connection or maybe the starter is going out. maybe someone else will chime in.

Get a cheap multi meter and check for power at the starter. You should have constant power on the big cable on the starter. Then you need to check the little wire. Make sure you set the parking brake and have the transmission in neutral, and have someone try to start the Jeep while you check for power at the little wire. If you have power at both places, then go buy a starter. If you don't, then you have a cool little meter to figure out the problem.
