Need help with gas mileage!

Please help! My gas mileage stinks...even for a jeep. I barely get 200 miles to a tank (using around 17 gal). I have a 2006 X 6 speed manual 4.0L. I have a 2.5" lift, 31"X10.5X15 Goodyear Duratracs at 28psi and no spare tire. I have stock bumpers and no winch and a soft top. Jeep has 37k miles on her. Any ideas why my mileage would be so bad? I know jeeps don't get great mileage, but I am only get 11-12 mpg! I am lucky that this isn't my DD!

I have that same issue...I have a stock 2004 rubicon and i'm getting 11 mpg. I took it to the dealership because I couldn't figure out what was wrong...they couldn't either.

If you haven't re-geared and you're calculating your mileage without allowing for the larger diameter tires, your mpg will be off.

It's more likely that nothing is wrong rather than both of you having the same problem that causes both your jeeps to get 11 mpg.....

Well there isn't a replacement speedo gear for the 2006 manual tranny for 31" tires, at least I couldn't find one. The speed is not far off. Do you think it is making that big a difference in the calculations?

Depends on your gear ratio. With my 5 speed, 3.07 gears, and 31 inch tires, my speedo is off approximately 10%. I get 14-15 after adding in the 10 percent difference on the mileage. I used a GPS to see how far off my speedometer is.

I believe in the winter time they make gas with a different blend for winter causing bad gas mileage. I only get about 200 miles per tank in winter as well. In the summer I get about 250 miles per tank.

Send a message via ICQ to rbraden1970
You can order gear for a yj that is the tooth count you need. It will be a long shaft. You can boil it are be real careful and heat it up with a heat gun to slide it off the shaft and install it on to yours. I had to do this not to difficult because i couldnt order one for my tj with the right tooth count. Send me a message and i can go into more detail later

If the speedometer is off does it cause the odometer to be off too? It is not obvious to me.
