Need help with wheels and backspacing

I just bought a 01 jeep tj with Mickey Thompson baja claw tires. The tires are 35-12.50-15 on 10 inch rims. They stick out passed the 6in fender flares about 2-3 inches. I would like to go to a 15 x8 inch rim but I don't know what backspacing or offset I need so they will not stick out my fender flares. In Ut where I live the cops will pull you over. So should go with 3.75,4 or 4.5 backspacing. Thanks-Don

Hi Don and welcome to the forum. First you need to make sure there are no spacers in there. Most likely there is none. Second. Does it hit anywhere right now. If not then check to see how much clearance you have at full left and right inside the wheel well. You need to measure your existing back space. Most setups need a 3.75 to 4 inch backspace at that size. My guess is your going to have to live with what you have and add some wider flares to it. Going to a 15x8 will not make a big difference in width.

I believe if you have a discount tire near you they sometimes have a sizing service they can do to figure backspace. It bolts to the rotor with the wheel bolts and they can spin it to check for clearance. My 4 wheel parts has one.
