Need new shocks what does everyone run

Looking for new shocks for my dads stock 97 tj, just wandering what are some good ones? I was looking at autozone for prices $20-$25 for the cheapos and $45-$55 for there better shocks. Are the cheap ones ok considering how light a jeep is? I can go with something from for wheel drive hardware for $50 a piece which is right around what I wan to spend. Opinions guys

I have always run rancho 5000s if I upgraded the shocks. Rancho does a good job of valving the shock for specific applications. I have had them on a YJ, TJ, and a Tahoe.

I run skyjacker hydro shocks they have a really good ride plus good offroad performance. As of right now I have no dislikes.

Stock TJ,and If he doesn't use it off road, I would probably just go with the better ones from Autozone, or some Monro- Sensitraks. They have lifetime warranty, so you won't ever have to pay for em again.

I went with the Monroe Sensitracks because the OEM ones were worn out when I bought it. They were a big improvement and they are fine on the road and on mild dirt trails. Off road, though, particularly in the rear, I really wish they were stiffer. When the rear drops down off something, it squats down and it feels like it bottoms out. The front is fine. So if I had to do it over again (and I probably will) I'd get better shocks.
