Question Need some buying advice

Hi! I'm a future Jeeper and I'm currently looking at a 1999 TJ Sahara that I found on Craigslist going for $7,900 that appears to be in great condition. This would be not only my first Jeep, but my first owned vehicle overall. I will be talking to the seller tomorrow. Is there anything specific I should ask or know about prior to talking with the seller? I would hate to buy it and find out there is something wrong with it that I was not aware of. I can upload the pictures if it would help any, just let me know.

Is there a lift? What kind of lift? And look under see if there is alot of damage? I have a TJ and love it.. Is it a 6banger? For that price i would say yes..

I'll just post the listing. I was hesitant because I'm a little paranoid someone else will buy it before I finish thinking about it. This contains all that I know about it so far. Jeep Wrangler Sahara TJ 6 cyl. automatic Excellent condition - $7900 (Weston)

Looks like a great deal. As long as there are no surprises like bad transmission, exhaust manifold leak, over heating issues, or any thing like that. If is drives as good as it looks and looks as good in person as it does in the post, I say go for it!

That's a good price for a Wrangler with 100K on it. Check to see if it has a Dana 44 Rear Axle. If it does, get it. If it has the Dana 35, that's still a pretty good deal.
Here's an axle chart so you can identify the axle:

If everything in the post is true, it sounds like it's been taken care of. Have a trusted mechanic check it out and if everything checks out, buy it. That's a good deal. Makes me feel sorta bad about my recent purchase...

I saw in two of the pictures that it has a hard top. If it comes with a hard top along with the soft then that's a pretty good deal!

Sorry its a budget boost. Its a hockey puck that sets up ontop of your springs. Gives you a cheap lift.

Would it be something I can install myself or would I have to take to a mechanic? If I have to take it to a mechanic, how much would that usually go for?

Thanks for the info! Where exactly would I look to check the rear axle type? Also, I didn't see any hard top in the pictures. Where did you see it?

My bad, 5th and 6th picture looked like it had a hard top since it was pulled so tight. Just looked like a hard top when I skimmed through the ad.

Best way to identify the rear axle is to just lay down on the ground and look at the axle. The giant "hub" in the middle of the axle is the differential cover. If it looks like a Dana 35 cover, then that's what it is. If it looks like a Dana 44 cover, then that's what it is.
Still not sure? Here's a pic:
1997 Jeep Wrangler Tj Dana 44 Photo 11

The the thing smack dab in the middle of the axle with the silver bolt heads, that's the differential and in this case, it's a Dana 44 rear axle.

Make sure the soft top is in good shape.. Look for tears or broke zippers.. If it is bad make them knock off 400.00 and buy you a new one or live with that one

The guy claims in the listing that he just installed a week ago. Hoping it's as good as it appears in the pictures.

Haha. Can't name'er until I get'er. Like naming a pet before bringing it home and then finding out someone else ended up with it. Don't want the attachment until it's final.

That's one thing that originally caught my attention in Jeeps. The ability to take off the top and doors at any time I felt like it. Makes it perfect for cruising on a sunny day or a trip to the beach.

She looks like a real beauty! It's a great price too. On top of the visual inspection (lift carpets to look for any rust), run a car fax and make sure she's had a safe past.
