Need some plasti dip advice

I'm about to plasti dip my wheels and I'm just wondering when I remove the tape and cards and newspaper I'm gonna use to mask off the tires. Do I take them off as soon as I'm done or do I wait till it dries? Also would 3 cans be enough for 5 wheels and maybe a grille?

I can't vouch for how many cans you'd need but you should remove the tape/paper immediately afterwards because the PD basically sits on top of the finish so it can be removed later on. Otherwise you'll have to razor the sharp edges or you'll probably end up peeling off the Plasti Dip. If however you use bedliner paint you could keep the tape on without a problem later on.

One can was plenty for my four wheels, plus I had enough left for two three fender flares.

I simply used electric tape to and painter's tape to mask. I put down 3 total coats, the first one pretty light, the second and third pretty heavy, with 5 minutes between coats.

Now, on the last coat, I only waited one minute after finishing it to remove the tape which allowed the Plasti Dip to dry enough to begin to set, but not dry enough to peel up with the tape.

Here's a few pics of how it turned out:

Took me 3 cans to do 4 coats for all 5 wheels. I didn't tape my tires off... It just peeled off the tires anyway and came out great!

I masked off the first one and then realized this stuff doesn't really stick to the tire, so I didn't bother with the other four. Very good decision on my part .

Hey fellas how durable is that stuff on wheels? Will it scratch off if the trail gets thick?
