Need Some Tips

Just bought a 99 Wrangler SE 4-banger 5 speed. Good mechanical condition; 78K miles; valve cover gasket leak (slight), small amount of surface rust under carpet behind drivers seat but not underneath tub; no rust anywhere else; a few of the rubber suspension stops have deteriorated;slip ring in steering column needs to be replaced or lubed; tight front end; no error codes; good shifting; good AC; and dirty mildewy Bestop sailcloth top with two small tears.

I need to get a few more months out of the top but if anyone can suggest a fix (it is a camel color) for the mildew and small tears let me know.

Drove home from Orlando to Orange Park today, good road manners, no wobbles, OK power for 4-banger.

Any tips would be received gratefully.

How bad are the tears and where are they located? As far as cleaning, I would take it off, lay it out and use a mild bleach, water mix to kill the mildew, but rinse it well.

One is behind the passenger seat on the top of the roof behind the roll bar about directly over the outside shoulder of a passenger if they were sitting there. The other is over the driver's roll bar, an L-shaped tear, about 1/4 inch long by 1/4 inch long.

BTW what do you mean by mild bleach solution?

And how long are these tops supposed to last?

Thank you for your prompt response!

This is just a thought. For the tears, you could stitch it with heavy thread then shoe goo it if you don't care what it looks like. That may or may not work.
