Need Suggestions before I buy!

Hello, I am looking for a fun weekend off road truck. I have not owned a Wrangler before. I am looking for advise on what to get. I looks like a big body style change in 97 so I am assuming a 97+? Which motor, 4 or 6 cyl? Which trans Auto or Man?
Any other suggestions? It seems like most are Man. trans but isn't an Auto Easier/better for Wheeling?

Thanks

Matt

So, you plannin on wheelin? How much you want to spend?

There has never been a "big" body style change in wranglers.

BTW... welcome to the forum. Hope to see what you get. Post up some pics when you buy something.

If your gonna do any decent ammount of wheelin' Id suggest getting a 6cyl with a Dana44 rear, if you can find one. As for tranny, thats all up to you and what you like best.

The Wheelin will be mild for now as I am new to it...I sell GM Muscle car parts for a living so im VERY into Cars/trucks. I have pretty much decided on the 6cyl/auto....Seems like it would be easier to control brake/gas with an auto? How do I know which front/rear axle they have? Also thinking a winch would be good just incase? Trying to spend no more than $7500

Thanks again

All TJ's 97-06 came with a Dana30 in the front except for the Rubicon model(03-06) which has a Dana44.

For the rear the more common axle is the Dana35 which is prone to break with larger tires(33"+). TJ's also came with a Dana44 rear axle wich would be the one to look for.
