netting for my pup

spring is getting closer and i would really like to take my pup (by 'pup' i mean doberman) places in the jeep instead of hauling him around in the back of my wifes VW, lol. but as soon as the weather turns nice i take the hard top off and i don't feel comfortable with him in the jeep. he's rode shotgun once or twice like that, but i would like for him to have the back and not have to worry about it. keep in mind i am from the country and am used to dogs riding in truck beds but i now live in the city and this is a city dog. i don't trust him to stay put like a country dog would. i found this tonight for $100 - Jeep Wrangler Cargo Pet Dog Net Nets Netting : Wrangler Netting Kit

what do you guys / girls think? any experience with it? recommendations?

My boxer pup almost fell out last year..... I'd at least recommend that or maybe cargo netting from SUVs.....

Not sure on that brand bud. I don't like the fact they use plastic lashes/clips.

Here is a link to a proven netting system company.....

www.raingler.com

Great nets and they use metal lashes. Have several freinds with raingler net and they are all happy with the products. They also do stay tight even going down the highway.

scary! that's a huge fear of mine! my dog loves the jeep and the air and i always feel bad about throwing him in the back of a hatchback when i have the jeep right there.

PetBuckle Kwik-Connect Tether - Travel - Dog - PetSmart you just hook it to the floor or seat my dog has only got out of it once and that was my fault he just jumped in my lap and licked me. Rawley is just a Spaniel but it held my friends boxer just fine

Sorry to kind of OT you here, but this thread reminded me of this...

A lady was telling her neighbor that she saw a man driving a pick-up truck down the interstate, and a dog was hanging onto the tail gate for dear life!
She said if the pick-up truck driver hadn't been going so fast in the other direction, she would have tried to stop him. A few weeks later, her neighbor saw this truck at the Bass Pro Shop in Daphne, Alabama!

The pick-up truck driver is a local taxidermist with a great sense of humor!

Can you imagine how many people try and stop this guy?????

I've been running a prototype of the ROC SOC for about 6 months now. (The YJ in the ROC DOG Fabrication pics is mine) Its a great idea and, so far,a great product. I can see better through the 1/4" netting than with the 2" pieces of what I tried before. Plus there are no holes for folks to stick their hands thru and into the jeep. When I want into the cargo area, the magnetic strips along the tub are easy to move and replace.

It fits great with my bikini top, doesn't flap around at highway speeds, and right now is hanging out under my soft top waiting for spring.

A couple of things that came up at a test fit that ROC DOG has improved.... the center curtain, and more versatility for fastening around the roll bar (one of the TJs had fire extinguishers on the roll bar he need to secure the top around).

Check it out.....Works for me!!!

How much play do those tethers have. my pup loves to ride shotgun and goes absolutley crazy if she can't get up to the front seat. I would prefer a harness like that, but it needs to keep her but in the seat and not give her to much play.

i think that net is a good idea if you think he may jump out. if there is some kind of barrier he won't be inclined to jump.

dare, i love the story and the pic.

I have a harness I also bought at Petsmart. It attaches to the seatbelt and is designed as a dog seatbelt. My Beagle can sit in the front seat. It keep her in the front seat and also keeps her safe as a seatbelt is designed to. She can pretty much move all around in the seat and it keeps her out of my lap. It cost about $25 total. The size is based upon your dogs weight.

Check out bigboyjeep.com, they have a similar product to that of raingler nets, but for a lot cheaper.

The dogs still need to be able to have the wind in their faces, or they won't even want to bother riding with you!
