My air only works on the highest setting, for both heat and A/C. im thinking resistor? any ideas how to fix this?

(just to clarify you either need to blast the a/c or heat, cant use the low setting)

I had this happen in a Jeep Liberty too. IDK exactly what it is but check out the whole electrical system for the air. It sounds electrical.

its your blower motor resistor

the highest fan speed signal bypasses the resistor to give full voltage to your blower motor, the other three signals go through the resistor to limit the voltage applied to the blower motor

pretty easy fix and there are bunches of youtube videos on how to do it

If you're going to repair it, you might as well install relays so the current for the blower motor isn't going through the tiny little wires in the OEM harness. These tiny little wires will only handle the tiny amount of current to energize the relay coils, and you'd run fused or CB'd 12 gauge wires from an ignition-hot main source of power in the PDB through the relay contacts and on to the resistor.

Here's what you'll probably see when you dig into this. (Sorry about the blurry pic.)

This is the blower motor resistor connector from my 2000 TJ, the resistor is in the background and it's obvious that it got pretty darn hot. The wires crystallize and get brittle from the heat, which requires more amps and makes the wires hotter...sooner or later they either break or catch on fire. Install a replacement pigtail if yours looks like this, and consider doing the relay mod.

ok i spent over an hour digging thru it and i dont think i have the same setup

I didnt see any resistor which sucks bc i ordered a new one on amazon before i took it apart. i am pretty confused as to what this relay is / does and i dont see the resistor anywhere.

any help.

I took a picture with it in and one with it out, could this be a replacement for the resistor that was supposed to be there?

so i have seen that video, but im confused

Does that mean the relay is bad? will the resistor pack i ordered still work? i dont exactly see where it would go, nor can i find the bolts holding that thing in.

that relay really has me thrown off bc its just so different than what u see in the video in terms of getting the thing out
