Picked up a non rubi dana 44 rear end for my jeep. I'm regearing to 4.88s, and want to know do I/ should I get thick cut gears? Or I was even looking into the Jana 44 kits. I plan on running 35s on this axle and I'm wanting to do it the best way possible.
The carrier break on the dana 44 breaks at 3.73 and down, 3.92 and up. The thick cut 4.88 gear is to get around this carrier break problem. If the original axle had 3.73 or lower you can leave out a carrier change if you get the thick cut gears. If you do not want to use the thick cut and originally had a 3.73 or lower you need to change the carrier. On the other side of you originally had a 3.92 or up you would need the regular cut 4.88 gears.
Alright thanks for the info man, it has 3.73 gears in it so exactly what I thought.
