New Guy

Hey, i'm new to the Jeep Forum.
I'm wanting to buy a 1997 jeep wrangler after the first of the year. The reason I have selected the 97 is the coil spring comfort, compared to the leaf srping in the YJ. I have never owned a jeep. I do have a Polaris Ranger.
The jeep will be a second vehichle for me to play around with. I will use it as a around town plus mud/rock playing also.
Need some ideas of best places to buy one and best parts places etc.

My name is Tommy, looking forwarded to e-mailing with the 'JEEP' FORUM CREW.

Avoid dealers if at all possible...check your local Craigslist and have cash in hand if you want the best TJ and the lowest price. I paid $5800 cash for my '99...the same TJ sell for $9000 at used lots.

For general Jeep bathroom parts Pron...get on the mailing list and catalogs from:

Watch Craigslist like a hawk and you will find some descent deals. Found my 06 LJ Rubi on Craigslist for $15.5k with 62k miles. They are out there, just have to look for them.

I found a 1989 yj in good shape, not great shape. Has a hard top and aftermarket bumpers,200,000 mile but run ok. They are asking $3,000 italso has good tread and nice rims. I think it's a pretty good deal. What do y'all think?

Well, the good thing is that 5+ years from now it will still likely be worth what you buy it for.

I would pass on that one. Stick to the TJ version and you will be happier.

Favorite your search criteria on Craigslist and hit it several times a day. Good ones go pretty quickly. Take your time though. Due diligence can go a long way. I had a friend available who manages a shop who allowed me to use their lift to check them out. Great way to check for rust, abuse, etc.
