New guy questions

Can someone please explain the differences between the Dana 35 and 44? I'm looking at buying a guys 2002 Wrangler X. Does the 35 have limited slip? What would it cost to change out the reared to a Dana 44?
Thanks for everyone's patience. I'm sure it gets old explaining things.
Tim

The Dana 35 uses c clips to hold the axles in, the 44 does not. The 35 is a bit weaker, but with a super kit can be safe up to 35" tires (I wouldn't turn any higher than 33's on my 35). The D44 has a larger ring gear, and would be more suitable for a locker. The 35 can also be locked but requires a super kit.

My opinion. If you don't plan on anything larger than 33's you'll be okay, if you want bigger go with a 44.

I haven't had this problem yet (knock on wood) but I know many people breaking axles with the 35's. I'm looking to upgrade to a 44 or a Ford 8.8 out of an Explorer.

It depends on your type of wheeling and how much you like the fun pedal. A super 35 is a viable axle.
