new guy with a tj and 3 inch body lift questions

Good day to you all.
I am very new to the jeep world. Have always wanted one but circumstances have alway interfered. Finally all things came into alignment and i made the decision to buy one. But the story goes even deeper than that. My passion is so deep that we (my wife and i) bought a 97 tj for my sons high school graduation present.

Anyway, i decided to make the move. Looked at craigslist faithfully and found some listings that were about a month, month and a half old and sent out feelers to see if they were still available. As i went to view the first one i called my son (the jeep expert in the family) to see if he wanted to ride along. He was all over it.

The first one was on a mechanics lift in a garage, we could only look at the undercarriage and the lower half of the body. Too many mods going on so off we went to the next one. It was a 94 yj. It sure looked good in the picture. I speculate the picture was at least 10 years old. A termite ridden house looked better than this bucket with holes. I was a bit dismayed at the deceptiveness and the over value the owner placed on it.

The third was a 98 tj with 71k miles on it. 6 inch suspension lift, soft top sitting high on some 35's. My son couldnt make that trip but i sent him a picture and he loved it. We test drove it about 4 hours later.

When the test drive was over my son told me about his ambitions of turning his 97 into something like that and went on to offer to trade jeeps if i bought the 98. It took about a half day for me to say yes. After hearing about the money and time that would be saved a whole bunch of times, i bought the 98 and then immediately traded it for my sons 97.

He was in the process of lifting the 97 and has installed a 3 inch body lift. Some questions come to mind.
Is there someplace i can go to for premade linkages for the 4wd selector and the gear shift? I am unable to shift into 4 wheel low right now. And #2; are there any down falls or issues i should look for concerning the lift itself? Thanks for the replies.

Many guys on here don't like the 3" body lifts, some feel it's a safety concern with the added stress on the bolts, others just don't like the look of the gap between the tub and frame. I have the same lift on my Jeep now that I'll be replacing in the spring with a shorter one. I don't have any safety concerns with it just getting some binding in the transmission. Novak makes cables for the transfer case, they are a bit pricey but do the job well from everything I've read.

If you are set on keeping the 3in body lift get the novak cable system. Personally I would get rid of it and go with a max of 1.25in body lift. (I would still get the novak system) The added stress of the body wanting to tilt and shift on the bolts at 3in is a lot and I wouldn't recommend it.
