New Header

I know the header is a pretty common problem among TJ's. I'm looking for one that is going to increase power and still last. Ive heard from people that some of the big names like Banks still end up cracking. I was wondering which ones, if any, you guys have had good sucess with. Also, I havent seen much on the Edelbrock header for the TJ... does anybody run that? I know where I can get myself one for a good deal. thanks in advance.

It has always been my understanding that the best way to get any real significant power gains out of the I6 is to stroke it. I would go with the unexpensive route and spend the cash on a more worthwhile mod. Of course that's just my .02.

I was just looking to get some extra power as a plus. I need to relace it anyways because of a crack. thanks though

Many have replaced the header / exhaust and did the TB spacer and intake with programmer and after spending the $$$ didn't really notice any huge gains for the ammount of money spent.

The best bang for the buck will always be gears on the Heeps. Unless you want to go the stroker route or swap in the V8. I too want more power but I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait to stroke mine (no sick jokes people ) due to lack of funds at the moment.

ok, well i need to replace my header. (its cracked^) When I get my replacement, i would prefer on that claims gains in performance over an OEM replacement. Someday, long into the future I might drop in a v8 if money permits.

Yea, I got that. I was just sharing info so you didn't spend a ton on a "high performance" header only to be disappointed with the results (power wise).

I just went with a set of pacesetter headers, they were cheap and they work fine for the money. I usually go with either gibson, or borla when I do the headers in my rigs. there is another thread about headers somewhere on here with a ton of info on them and what people went with (I would search it) I know I posted on it so if you wanted to do a search under my name I'm sure you will find it.
I didn't notice any power gains in the TB spacer when I did mine. I did notice throttle response gains which I like due to my little 4banger.

I have gone through 3 banks headers on my 99 w/6 cyl. They have recently changed the header due to the cracking. the new part is 51304 which will be put on my jeep on thursday by banks. we'll see how this one works.

The only part of my exhaust thats good is the Borla catback. I need to look into a header also among other things.

I didn't know Jeeps had ANY problems. Mine just got her first oil change today, so I think I'm gonna be in the clear for a while. Borla is a great brand but you pay for what you get.

whats with all the cracked headers/manifolds? what causes this extreme cold/heat too much torque, or just an underengineered part . my 99 with 4.0 has a crack in it too

The engine is an inline 6..

The design of the exhaust manifold on Wrangler's I6 suks.. The piping is really short..its so short that all the bending/torquing from the engine has no where to go and is all taken by the welds.. which ends up cracking..

Longer piping will flex a bit so the welds are not the major point of "attack" but wranglers I6 long block and the short piping design does just the opposite.

take a look at this design for example (i believe thats a toyota supra I6 header).. see how long the piping is? all that piping will take the "beating" of the long engine instead of the welds.

It's the 91-99 4.0's. They all had problems. They manifolds were made from inferior materials and the expansion and contraction of them forced them to crack after awhile. They changed the design of the manifold in 2000 to what it is today. They now have expansion joints in the 1 and 6 tubes to help it move around like it needs to without breaking.

My replacement "manifold" from Ebay has held up just fine.

Ah hell DW I don't remember exactly and it's too long ago to pull up on Ebay or Paypal. I remember I paid about 80 bucks total for it including shipping.
