New here.need help on jeep purchase

I am looking to buy a 2001 jeep wrangler hard top sport. 4.0ltr, 5spd, blue, a/c, decent looking jeep in the picture. Stock suspension, wheels, etc.. Has 140,000 on the jeep. Runs good they say. Only down fall i can see is the soft windows, but i do like the half doors better than full doors in the summer,i have to drive 3 hrs to look at it and buy it. Is there anything i should look for. I am giving $5300 for the jeep if i like it. Tires are 80%. Here is a picture.
please give me advice on this purchase
i will be installing a 4-6in suspension lift, sway bar disconnects and some 33 or 35 in tires on 10inch wheels. Probably black wheels
eventually lockers,

look for rust. rust has always been a jeeps arch nemesis. if you 're concerned about whether or not it has been off roaded, check for banged up skid plates and mud baked on to the exhaust and above the skids, those are tell tale signs of off roading.

sweet. I miss my old 73 Dart Sport, had a 360 with 340 heads (360 AAJ heads on it), My first ride was a 74 Dart Swinger, put a 360 in it but blew it up, besides it had a 904 trans and 8 1/4 junk rear. I love old Mopars

dude, I love it. That car has some rare options man, love the crank roof. Have you brought it to the Mopar Nats?? The fold down rear seat is rare from what I remember. Didnt it have something to do with surfboards? I know the Hang Ten Dart had it.

Rust on the top of the front fenders, rust in the lower section of the rear corner panels, and on the tub above the side steps. Lift the carpet and look for any significant rust on the floor pan. Look for radiator fluid that may indicate a cracked radiator. Look for any fluid leaks, really. Listen for a tick, which may or not be a cracked manifold. Check all the 4wd operations and make sure that when engaged in 4x4 that the front end 'jumps' on a tight turn so that you know it's kicked in properly.
Look it over for collision damage: overspray, sand paper marks in the paint but below the clear, and don't forget to look for those types of things under the hood where a good repair is more likely to be neglected.

Overall, it looks very nice. The faded flares are an easy fix. I love that color, it looks like a nice find. Good luck!

I hear ya. Id bring back a Cuda then sell it and retire. That Duster is a rare find though. If I remember right, there were less then 5000 360 dusters sold in 74 and less then that in 75.

got the jeep home yesterday. talked him down from 5700 to 5300 and when i got there i offered him 5100 and he took it. so i have enought to go ahead and get the wheels for it. the bfg ko tire are 31x10.5 so they will fit the 15x10 wheels. will get them tomorrow or tuesday and i will get some pictures loaded up. the 4.0 sure does run alot better than the 4cyl my 95 had in it. they suck for fuel mileage thought. not sure what it got but it was shame full.

got the new wheels put on today. has bfg ko 31x10.5x15 tires on 15x10 inch eagle alloys. not my first choice but for $90 mounted and balanced with caps and lug nuts i did not think that was to bad and no charge on the tax for new wheels.
what do you think?

Looks great! What was included for $90 M&B??????? Also, do you have any idea what size and offset those wheels are?

Thanks!

$90 included the lug nuts, center caps and mounting and balance and all tax. Paid $360 out the door. The wheels are 15x10 inch and not sure on the offset. Could check the box tomorrow. Turned out pretty decent. I removed and painted the drivers side flares. They look alot better on it nice and black. Going to do the passenger side maybe tomorrow night if it does not rain

10" rims are too wide for 31x10.50s, but other than that it looks like you got a great deal on a nice Jeep

I agree here. but i am going to run the 31's until they are wore out the buy either a 4 or 6 inch lift. and put some 33's or 35's. not sure. if i go with a 6 and 35's exactly how tall would it be. too tall to drive daily? my wife will be driving it and will have my 2 1/2 yr old twins with her. i do not want it to be tipsy. so should i go with 4 or 6 inches?
