New here with 4 banger question

I recently bought a 98 wrangler only thing is it is 2.5L and there were no hills near the place when I bought it. needless to say at home where the hills are everywhere it is a gutless pig. was wondering if anyone has attempted to add a turbo from a K car 2.5 which is also a chrysler product. if this has been tried I would love to here if it worked or is not do-able.

Have'nt heard of that, would be sweet if it worked! I too suffer from the 2.5 lo-output motor. Just some advice, I have put on a cold air intake, bored throttle body, throttle body spacer, header and flowmaster. All of this made a little bit of a difference, mainly at mid-range. I then put 4.88's in it and that is when I noticed the biggest difference. Just my 0.02.

Welcome to the forum, great group of guys and gals that are a huge help!

"Hello, my name is Will and I am a 2.5 owner"

::crowd:: "hellllloooo Will"

My friend is giving me two turbos from his audi s4. One is going on my R1.Would be cool if it worked, but I'm starting to look for parts to drop in a 350.

I have never turbocharged a Jeep, but did on my Porsche. It is not as difficult as you would think, but it takes a lot of fabrication. If you are not good with a welder and a mill, or have access to these, you may want to look for a small block or another Jeep with a 4.0. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I assume you would have to have a stand alone computer right? Do they even make aftermarket computers for these jeeps? I have enough access to enough people that can help me fab and tune the system. I think you would have to look into beefier axles though. And these things are bad enough on gas, but I would be willing to sacrifice MPGs for HP.

What size tires are you running?

just moved up from stock to 31x10.50 and didn't notice any difference. 2.5 is weak, but adequate around town. Main problem is interstate >65

When I bought my 2.5 99 SE it came with 265-75-15's. I traded a guy wheels and tires and went to a 225-75-15 and it did make a big difference. When I was cruising at 55 mph before my RPM's were about 1800RPM's. With the smaller size I run close to 2400 RPM's and now I can actually pass people and go up hills in the road. I am thinking about going to a 235-75-15 to get a little more size, but I don't want to go to the 265's again.

Well you have to decide if you want HORSEPOWER or FUEL ECONOMY.....cuz you aint gonna get both. If I want HP I drive mine up to 3rd gear. If I want FE I use 4th and 5th. I got the 4 banger since it was the nicest one I could find at the right price. Besides I don't need to go that fast....if I want to lose someone I just go off road.
