New Jeep Owner

Hello all. I just bought a 97 TJ 4.0 and love it. I thank my wife for totaling our Maxima to make it possible. I always wanted one and took this opportunity to get one.

It's got 130k miles on it, but I got it for what I think is a good deal. It came with hard and soft tops and Thornbird tires for $6k. It didn't have any issues when I test drove it, but some minor things are cropping up, possibly due to the fact that I'm driving it a lot more then they did as it was an extra car for them. I've never done much work on cars, but have started in the last few weeks. So far I've pulled the clutch fan off and put on an electric fan cause it runs hot, also replaced the thermostat as it started to stick, going to flush the radiator this weekend also. I live in Dallas and it was 105 last week, and that's when it was at it's worst. So I'm curious to see how it handles when it heats up again.

Otherwise I do have concerns about the oil pressure that maybe I can get some advise on. Whenever I've been driving for more then 10 minutes, when the RPM's drop below 1500 the oil pressure bottoms out and the check gauge comes on, as soon as I get moving again it jumps back up to between 20-40. I've replaced the oil pressure sender and that didn't fix it. Think I may look at replacing the oil pump. Is this something a beginner should get into? It's my daily car, so I only have weekends to work on it and don't want to get in over my head and be stuck come Monday.

Thanks for any advise in advance and I'm certain to become a regular here.
