So I've read the forum regarding the goods and bads of lifts. I just purchased a 97 wrangler 4cyl. It currently has 31x10.50x15s Firestone Destination MTs on it. It had been in a wreck and I have to replace the front axle because the yoke ( that C shaped piece where the wheel is) is bent and no one I've found feels it can be bent back and run safely. The lower torsion bar is bent where it bolts onto the axle. Little bit of work, but I paid $1500 for the jeep and found a complete front axle for $750 (I assume that's a good price), I think I'll be pleased with the final result when I'm finished with my budget ride.
While the front axle is down, I want to go ahead and put a lift on it.
Right now it has spring spacers with Rancho shocks. Not too keen on the poor mans lift, but hey I'm a poor man. It's probably 2" or so now with those spacers.
I'm wondering if I can go with a 3" without making any changes to the driveshaft, etc. With mixed reviews, I was thinking of the Rough Country 3". With those 31x10.50 will a legit 2" look better? I don't want it to look like a tonka toy. Don't expect to do much off roading, but want it to look good and perform well when I do.
I think 31" tires with 3" lift looks funny. Check out the thread,"3" BL Gone" for a pic. For about 5 days I had new 31" MTs with my old 3"BL until I had time to replace the 3" with a JKS 1.25"BL. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Tires bigger than 31" will also reveal the 4 banger's limited power.
31's on a 3" lift doesn't look that bad. I had 31's on a 3" suspension lift until it was time to replace them and I went to 33's
4 liter in line six, Bestop Highrock bumpers, Warn winch, light guards, grill guard, Westin running boards, Dick Cepec DC-1's on 33" Mickey Thompson MTZ's, pocket style fender flares, d-rings, hard top, tinted windows, a completely redone sound system with Alpine Type S in rollbar, Arc speakers in the dash and an Alpine headunit, Iggee's seat covers, 3" suspension lift, MBRP Exhaust System, IPF fog lights, steering stabilizers, a woofer, 12" ported Rockford Fosgate subwoofer and amp.
if there is no intention of going off-roading then just go with a 4 or lower lift no body lift it wears out. 4 inch is the point were you dont need a sye kit or a new cv. but if your kinda thinkin of hitting that trail that you pass going to work everyday it becomes addiction and a 4 is the way to go
