New Jeep owner - looking tires

I just bought a 2004 wrangler. It still has the stock tires 30x9.50. The jeep does not have a lift... and I am not really ready to put a lift on it yet... maybe one day! However, I would like to get a larger set of tires... thinking about 31x10.50 BF Goodrich All terrains. Fairly generic tire. I am not doing extreme mudding or any of that crazy rock-crawling stuff... just general commutes and occassional hunting or fishing trip to the beach. Will I be able to fit these tires without a lift or trimming?

Thanks for the help...

you will be immensely more happy if you just stay on the stock tires til you can afford some sort of a lift and then i would switch the tires out....if the stock ones are still good to go man...i say wait ...you won't regret it

Yes, 31x10.5's will fit without problem. I've heard some of them on here say that this size tire will rub at full turn, but I have never had it happen, and I'm sitting stock with 31x10.5's.
Enjoy your jeep!!!

31x10.5's here. They don't rub, but do stick out 1 rib beyond the flares. My wheels are 8x15.

31's should fit but it depends on what you want. If you are looking for a different look, rims with backspacing could provide that too.

Thanks for all of the feedback! This next question might reveal my level of mechanical know-how... "rims with backspacing"??? What does this mean?

Back spacing dictates how far in or out your wheels stick out

Backspacing is the distance between where the wheel bolts to the hub to the outer most edge of the inside of the wheel. (the lip)
The less backspacing there is means your wheels/tires will stick out away from the jeep more.

mrcarcrazy's diagram tells me that the pic on the left has more backspacing, which means your wheels/tires are going to stay up under the fender flares more.
The diagram on the right is going to push the wheels/tires out from the fender flares, giving it a wider stance.
Drawings are easier to show versus trying to explain it.
Thanks mrcarcrazy....I wish everything in life was as elementary as that!!!
