Today I put a deposit down on a 2001 Jeep wrangler, 4.0L, automatic, both tops, 65,000 miles, after market bumpers, offset wheels and new tires and I believe wider fender flares for 10 grand. It is in great shape and I should be taking it home sometime next week after the dealer does a service/tune up.
I have never owned a wrangler before but I am somewhat of a car guy (and even more into ATVs)
what are some things every wrangler owner needs to know? Checked out the FAQ and did not find much about basic every day driver wranglers.
Im just going to be using it as a daily driver and might take a cruise or 2 to silver lake sand dunes but no extreme off roading. I plan on leaving it mostly stock.
Any common problems to look or plan for? Common tips or tricks to do on my wrangler?
thanks, ill post pics when I get it!
thanks for the warm welcome!! =)
I plan on putting a after-market (K&N I guess, anyone make a performance foam filter? ATV guys know K&N are not the way to go if you want real protection against fine dust. which I have alot of on the dirt roads I live on, But they will do just fine.) Air intake and filter just to try and help gain a few MPGs and make everything a little more efficient.
also what are some good after market Mufflers to help it breath a bit better? again to help make things more efficient. Not looking for anything too loud like a glass pack. Just something deep, throaty (I realize its a v6 so Maybe Im asking to much? haha) and better flowing then stock.
A lot of members will say to leave the stock air filter and box the way it is. Also, it is an inline 6 cylinder but there are a lot of threads on here regarding mufflers and what some like and some don't like. I prefer the sound of the stock muffler, nice and quiet.
speaking from first hand experience, avoid deep water with your auto the autos stock breather vent is low and can suck in water if you go too deep and get stuck. Don't let that bother you though jeeps are AWSOME! Best 8,800 bucks ever spent so far in my life
well I got mine from a dealer, so after tax, tittle, fees it was around 11k, then I bought a 2 year/26k mile warranty for 680 bucks.
so id say you got a good deal too if you were 10k out the door.
The bumpers (matching front and back) on mine are Genuine Steel which seem to be a basic cheap brand (average price 116 each) and the rims are just gloss black with red and blue stripes around the outside steel rims that look to be offset (which im guessing is what is making it look wider then some jeeps) with silver/chrome lug nut cap in the center like on a Police car. Brand new tires but they aren't too aggressive, just perfect of winter time dirt road driving basically. It has a matching rim for the spare and a pretty aggressive thread tire on it (not sure where it came from but I want 3 more after the ones It has are done.)
Not sure on tire size or if it has a lift yet. It looks very mildly lifted but I did not check. I was more looking at the condition of everything rather then what it was. The dealer said nothing of a lift but he had just gotten it and did not even do a tune up or detail yet. so they did not know every detail yet so who knows. Thats why I dont have it yet.
anyway i could explain everything I saw and not get any info threw, so Ill post up PICs ASAP, then we will see if Im right or wrong.
But it looks like we both got good deals.
