Well after lurking on here and reading I finally joined
I have wanted a jeep for a long time and finally bought a 2003 TJ on Thursday. Got one in amazing shape with low mileage even had it checked out by a mechanic to be safe and it passed with flying colors. Brought it home and put it in the garage and already over night there is a puddle of power strewing fluid on the ground no bigger than the palm of my hand. I had a quick look and it looks like it is the steering box.
Obviously took it right back to the shop that gave it the mechanical the day before. They told me there was no leak at all and I had to go and show them where it was coming from. They said a seal maybe in the future but that it wasn't a big deal and not to fix it yet and they recommended just leaving it till it gets worse because it was almost undetectable. They even offered to show me how to check my power steering fluid apparently cause I am a girl I must not know how to do this lol!
Anyway I have read a fair bit on here about steering box on the 2003 TJ's and i am still not sure on what my options are? The Durango box won't just bolt on, but is it still possible to make it work, if the stock boxes aren't very good replacing it with one just doesn't make sence, can the leak be fixed? Do I just leave it for now? I was hoping for at least a few months before I had to start getting dirty and fixing things that's why I had a mechanic check it over! It not my DD so I can afford to be patient. Any advice is appreciated!
