New member question

My name is Dan and I live in Livermore, CA.

I just purchased a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon from a dealer. It has 50,000 miles and is completely stock. My question is close to another post I read yesterday regarding the vacuum hoses.

I also noticed that my central vent did not blow air. I also traced the vacuum lines and noticed that the intake hose was disconnected. So I connected it and air began blowing from the central vents. All was good so I thought.

When I took the jeep for a ride, and coming to a stop, my idle would surge back and forth continuously until the motor died. So I pulled over and disconnected that vacuum hose and it runs great again.

Any ideas or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the vacuum line back off. (completely) and shoot some air through it to make sure it is not clogged or being blocked.

Dan, welcome to the forum!

What is probably happening is the PCM (computer) needs to relearn the fuel trim & idle settings now that you have "repaired" the vacuum leak. When the hose first fell off the PCM went through the same process to adjust for the leak. It should relearn everything by driving it around for a while. You can also try disconnecting the battery for several minutes to reset the PCM (& still drive it around).

That hose has a tendency to come off & some use a zip tie to better secure it.
