New Mirrors

I have a 97 sport and have owned it since July 1996. The side mirrors started to move about 2001. I notice that '03-'06 wranglers have a different mirror which I believe were designed to overcome the moving mirror problem. My question is if these new mirrors fit older models? I will change to the new design if they will fit in the my factory holes. Has anyone tried to make this change?

They should fit no problem. I purchased some half doors for my 2006 from a pre 2000 TJ. So they would match, I swapped on another set of the new style mirrors. They bolted right up.

Have you tried tightening the nut on the inside bottom of the mirror? I believe the reason they changed the mirrors in 03 was due to the flaking of paint due to oxidation more than anything else.
