New owner here, mileage question

Hey all,

I'm up to owning this 2.4cyl 5sp for a whole 4 days now. I thought it had stock wheels on it (current: 31x10.5) but when I pulled the cover off the spare it was a 225/75/15 so Im guessing the PO put these 31's on. After two tanks I am getting around 17.5 mpgs which is off from the sticker I am looking at. Am I to assume this is due to the tires? I cannot tell if there is a small lift on it- as I said, I'm still a rookie on understanding what I'm looking at. I posted some pictures in the gallery but (if I can attach it correctly) here is another shot.

Forgive my ignorance if the photos don't come up right- I'm actually new to posting in forums...

Welcome to the Jeep life!

I say this all the time. There should be a sticky for MPG questions.

Only Rubi's came with 31's. So yours are not stock. 17.5mpg are good numbers. The 4-cyl really isn't much better than the I6 for mileage. But your speedo is off due to the larger wheels, this will also throw off your mpg calculations unless your going off of GPS.

The speedo gears are around 40 bucks each and can be replaced with one bolt. This forum has been around a long time so it is full of information if you know how to look for it. I suggest you go look around the forum at the new member threads that will explain how to search on the forum and our rules and guidelines to posting.

There are tons of helpful people on here and we will answer any questions you could possibly ever have about your jeep.

Thanks! Much appreciated!

I was going off of the speedo- didn't even think that it could be (is) off. I will use my GPS tonight to see whats what.

I will start searching through the forums- I can tell there is a LOAD of info here.

sounds good. mine a 98, 4 banger, 5 spd all stock and i get between 18-21---depending on foot, gas blends(season) warm ups in winter, did i mention foot? that's good for a rolling brick, and alot better than most on here.
