New Rack

Just installed the Besttop Hardrock overhead rack. Here is a pic of it.

I have my long board, short board, and body board on it now. I have a pair of foam soft racks to hold it to the rack.

This seems to ride okay so far. I didn't cut the bottom of my top to allow for the brackets to go in (I left the bottom loose). Hopefully it won't rain and I can just pull the sides off of the Jeep. I will probably have to remove the rack to put the top down. We shall see.

The rack was okay to put together and the instructions were okay. It seems pretty sturdy too.

I like to keep the fins on the boards near the front and also have them spaced so that the front bar of the rack is closer to the rear of the boards, like in the picture. Does this look okay to everyone?

A second opinion would be great.

Nice rack though like the tail on an airplane, the boards will be far more stable in the wind if you put the fins at the rear.

I was actually thinking of something entirely different when I first read about the "New Rack" though, I thought someone you knew had just had a little surgery and was showing the results off.

Nice Jerry! LOL.

Since I have been surfing I have always carried the boards on racks with fins to the rear. I also have usually kept the rear of the board closer to the front part of the rack because they have more strength in that area.

Got to love it

I am really liking how easy it is to modify my Jeep. I can so much work on it and it isn't that complicated.

With some vehicles that I have been around in the past, you need to be a full scale mechanic just to do an oil change. With my Jeep I keep doing projects and I keep getting more and more confident from doing them.

The only problem with my Jeep is that the projects are very addictive. Once I do one I want to do more and add more stuff. LOL

OMG she's (they're) gross. Not everything is better when they're that much bigger.

I agree Jerry. I thought the rack had a 300 pound weight limit

Hey HeaveToo, I actually posted about the Bestop rack when it first came out. How does the "clamps to the side no drill install "work ?

The bottom frame clamps around the metal side of the jeep the way a camper shell is often clamped to the bed of a truck. That is why it instructs you to cut the top there but I really don't want to do that.

Send me your pictures please!! It's a new product, and we're all curious.
Even the one above, in high-res would be super useful.

I send feedback and pixs off to engineers, sales guys, etc.
