New Stock Shifter knob for 5 spd

I just replaced my shifter knob with a new stock (Mopar) knob but I am having trouble getting the new cap on. Any tricks to this?
Thanks in advance, George

They're a pain in the butt to get installed. Just go slow, perhaps heat it up a tiny bit with a heat gun so it is a bit more bendable... if you use a screwdriver or anything sharp, you'll likely scratch the heck out of it. One reason I switched to a pool ball shifter knob.

Heat helps a lot; I used a hair dryer to soften it up and pounded it in with a rubber mallet. Make sure the lock nut is on tight and you get the cap on with the shift pattern facing right or you will be doing it all over again later.
