Just wanted to hey....got a few questions...
My wifes 1997 wrangler sport(4.0)...the defroster stays on defrost when you slide..control...is that vacuum operated or cable and if vacuum where is it located to service...the other is blower fan.works on high only....is it the resistor or switch...or both.......and how do you get the front panel of dash off...lol
thanks for any info...this is a great forum from what I have seen...sorry if this has been asked a bunch but newbie...lol

The defroster could be a loose vacuum line or a bad vacuum actuator or a broken defroster door lever. The actuator is the silver plunger looking things under the dash. (There are three under mine) I would try connecting a different vacuum line from one of the other plungers to the actuator and see if it works. That way you can narrow it down to a actuator or another vacuum leak. Fan only works on high is most likely the resistor, Mine does the same and I havent bothered to fix that one. front dash panel removal starts with removing the ash tray and the screws around it. Then remove the trim piece across the top of dash where defrost comes out, just pry it up from one side or the other. The center section has two screws at the top above radio, remove them and pull out at the bottom and lift up and off. The best Jeep ITEM I have bought was a factory service manual. Best $65 I ever spent for the Jeep, Plus Me and my wife have both have 97 TJ's

Ditto, ditto, ditto, on the factory service manual. The Haynes manual sucks big time for TJ's. Hunt on Ebay for one, you can find them used for relatively cheap. It explains how to do anything and everything and you can decide from there if you're in over your head on a particular project without reaching the 'oh, sh$t' stage. It should be a requirement for anyone working on a TJ. And it would certainly clean up this forum.

I will be getting a manual...thanks for the replies...ok I replaced the resistor and still only works on high so I am assuming the switch would be next?...
the door moving was a vacuum leak...
