New to forum, question on lift.

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I did a search for a 2"body lift tj. But only found 3" and more. I just purchased a 2000 "sahara" all stock original. I should mention its an automatic and A/C. I purchased a 2"body lift. The instructions are not clear about the torque shaft relocation. I have a skid plate there. There is hardly any room to get to it. Has anyone done a 2"body lift that could shed some light. I did a lift a couple years ago on my dodge dakota, and found out there were alot of tweaking to be done afterwards=spare tire could not get down, bumper was in way of the hole for the tool. Are there any things like this I should look out for? Thanks in advance. I'm at work now, but I will try to post pic's of my new jeep when I get home tonight. If I can figure out how to. LOL.

welcome. what is a torque shaft? Do they mean: driveshaft? steering shaft? 4x4 lever shaft?

That's the shaft for the transmission. I'm assuming. It well may be the shaft for the 4-w/d. In either case, I need to unbolt the four screws from inside the the jeep to free the bracket it connect's to. It just seems like a real tight squeeze to get in there between the skid-plate and floor of the jeep. Maybe after the lift is installed I'll have some better access to it. I was just hoping someone on here had already done it, and give me some pointers.

Are you talking about the Metal Plate that is mounted inside the tranmission tunnel that has the 2wd.4wd linage attached to it? If so.. you may need to lower the transfercase skid plate to gain acccess. Look up body lift install 2" on the web and I am sure you find some good pic's. I did 1" years ago so I don't recall the steps or process very well.

IMHO . . . Return that 2" Body Lift. You probably should stay away from any Body Lift that is more than 1.25" unless this is nothing more than a mall crawler . . . This is probably why you found very little info when you searched . . . a 3" Body Lift is just plain crazy. When modifying a Jeep, you really need to decide what your goal is . . . what type of wheeling are you going to do . . . what size tires are you going to use . . . etc. If you are just looking for a little clearance and don't plan on going bigger than 31" tires, then a 2" Budget Boost (longer shocks, spacers for the springs) or a 2.5" Suspension Lift (something like a OME that comes with longer shocks, and longer springs) would be a much better route to go.

I'm not planning on any off road use. I bought it to tow my boat. The 4-w/d helps pulling it on a step ramp. I just want a better look for it. I won't be getting any tires soon, the lady I purchased it from just had 4-new one's put on last week. Reg 15"ers. I want a little bit bigger tire, but just can't seem to throw away brand new tire's. They even offset the speedo by 10 when doing 50! there an inch smaller in hieght then what was originaly on it.

You can put 31" tires on a stock Jeep...I think you should skip the lift for what you're using it for. The body lift will make it a pain to get it into 4Lo unless you install a trasfer case shifter adapter (Advanced Adapters makes one), it replaces the bracket attached to the body which won't be at the correct place after a body lift. I have one and it's a pain to install, but works great.

Speaking of mods, I was thinking about doing something this spring. Everything's stock right now, but I want to go 31.10.5 15, so just doing the budget boost is probably all i want to do? since i'm not taking it too far into the woods, just down dirt roads and across creeks.

However, I would also like a nice and smooth ride. Should I look to do something different instead of the budget boost? I thought I heard that the ride could be a little rough.
