New to jeeps and need stereo help

Hi, I just bought my first jeep, an 01 se wrangler. It has a stock stereo cassette player with two speakers in the dash. Its a soft top and noisy so I need a little more out of the stereo. I ordered a kenwood cd player and two 4x6 speakers with adapter plates. Here is my issue, I've seen all the write ups about how to do the swap and am good with most of it except the wiring up. I bought a factory adapter and it has plugs for the factory and plugs for the stereo but then it also has bare wires, WTF?,
I guess what my question is, is why does it have the wires are they just there to add more in if you want and If I want to put more speakers in where is the best place to splice the wire into, those wires on the adapter? and what size wire do I use? I have some 6x9's I think I will add in.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I am a whizz at many things but electrical is not one of them

Hi Ortonic, your best bet is to follow any instructions that came the the receiver/cd player and wiring harness. What model Kenwood did you get? Also, depending on where you orderd the CD player, Crutchfield.com can be very helpful. Just my two and half cents...good luck

The different colors will be identified as to what they are in the instructions. The head unit will also have a wiring diagram in the installation manual. Match up power to power, ground to ground, and so on. The color are hardly ever the same so they dont matter. Just match them up per the diagram.

I got a Kenwood KDC-448U, I would have got it on crutchfield but it was $65 bucks cheaper on Amazon.
the product specs are on this site for the harness, it specifically says no cutting required, http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-74...ndingMethod=rr

The bare wires are what you connect to the wiring harness FROM the Kenwood radio itself. The adaptor kit only makes it so you do not have to cut the factory wire harness in the Jeep dash. On my kit I used the two connectors like in the above picture that are next to each other, the other connector is for a different model/option and is not used. It will probably have a yellow plastic cover protecting the wire tips from coming in contact with anything in the dash. (since you will not be connecting it to anything probably)

Does your Jeep have a factory AMP installed with a subwoofer in the center console?

It doesn't have the amp or anything, it's just the basic model that has two dash speakers.

That makes perfect sense, thank you.

This is exactly what you need to know. Take this advice from siafu.

I'm pretty sure that the blue is if you have a power att, the yellow for the acc power and the rest look like speaker or acc wires... but you should have paperwork with it...

This is why I only buy from Crutchfield. Free lifetime support and car specific diagrams. Call the company that sold you the radio for help.

Ditto.
Crutchfield is a little more expensive, but they include any wiring adapters needed, any mounting hardware needed, AND very good instructions.
Well worth $65, IMO.
