New to Me '05 Wrangler questions

Hey everyone,
just purchased a 2005 Jeep X, 4.0, 6-speed 33k on her, could not be more thrilled since I always wanted one and have a quick question....

1. I noticed from 1st gear to 2nd there is a "grind" unless the RPM's are real low, did not notice during the test drive, but the temps dropped drastically to the low 30's - sigle digits in CT since it started....should I bring it back for repair? Anything I can check?

That grind is normal on manual transmission jeeps. One way to get around it is to double clutch when shifting from 1st to 2nd. However most jeeps 1st gear is to low to start out in for normal driving. I use my 1st gear only when going slow like through a parking lot, starting out from a dead stop when driving up hill, or 4 wheeling through rough terrain. You would have to be the judge for using 1st gear. I mostly use 2nd when starting out from a dead stop while in traffic.

You need to shift it softly. It's not a sports car. I shift it out of first around 15 mph. I also wait 1/2 second in neutral when shifting between all gears.
Retired my 94 YJ 4cyl 5spd @ 200K
Now in a 04 TJ 4cyl 5spd CV @120K+
Both as a commuter vehicle in NW, NJ
April 2012.downsized and now a 99er.
