new to me 1998 questions

Hi,

I just picked up a 98 2.5L for my daughter.
Guess who has to fix it??
Anyway before I tear the shifter apart, that lights up I wonder?

Also have a light out above the spare, hoping it's just a bulb.
I stole it from her to get some gas for the snow blower today as it's snowing here, really felt like a tank in that snow compared to her moms 2003 trailblazer.

Any advice other than that stuff to look for gratefully accepted.
Need an owners manual.
what a Dad I am Huh.. Mine got me a Vega

Thanks

The light above the spare is probably not out. When you swing open the rear gate on the hinge side you will see 2 contact marks. Clean those and then try to see if the rear lights work. To the buying a car for the daughter I bought all my vehicles! Nice dad to look for anything else there is really nothing if you feel something is not right one of the very knowledgeable guys or gals here can brainstorm and give you the help of fixing it. Have fun with it.Jeeps are a lot of fun.

BTW pics or you didn't by your daughter a jeep! lol

X2. Even if the contact buttons by the hinge LOOK clean, they get oxidized and stop the light from working. It happened to me and I spent way too much time troubleshooting that light with a meter in disbelief those two pairs of shiny looking contact buttons could have been the cause. Use a small steel brush to clean them, that's what it takes to get them conducting again.

Not sure what you were talking about when you mentioned the light on the shifter. But if you meant it is burnt out, you can easily get to it by using a butter knife or flat bladed screwdrive to lift up the black plastic shifter bezel that is only snapped into the console.

Thanks I'll check out those contacts and pry open that bezel, doesn't sound too bad.

hers is just a green jeep with a soft top. If I get the bug when I get mine it might be worth some picture taking after I'm done with it! Right now 76 Vette is my toy.
