New to the community

So I have a 2004 Sport. I currently have the RC 2.5" lift installed. I was thinking about adding the RC 1.25" body lift so I can fit larger tires. Combined together is that enough clearance to fit 35s on a daily driver? Honestly the only off roading I do is dirt roads that a car can drive down. All I want to know is...... Will 35s fit?

Welcome! With 35's you will also need to upgrade your brakes, Regear your axles, and possibly upgrade your rear axle depending on what rear axle you have. (Dana 35 vs Dana 44) if you post a pic of the rear axle we can tell ya. You may need some wheel spacers, rims with less backspacing, or extended steering stops to prevent rubbing depending on the width of tires you go with.

This is what I'm working with so far. I've also tried to take the side steps off because they're cracking. But 2 of he bolts on the drives side only spin. Do I need to ft them off or what? And what are the options for upgrading brakes?

Good looking jeep! If I were you I would do a 1" body lift and just run 33" tires. You wouldn't have to worry about upgrading the rear axle, you would get better gas milage, stock brakes would be fine, and you wont need to pay close to $1,000 for a regear. Although you wouldn't need proper gearing for 33" tires, it would restore power and some MPG's, something that may be important if you do a lot of highway driving or hills.

I have my stock side steps for sale if you are interested, but if you are taking them off I would get some sliders. They will protect your jeep and look cool doing it

For brakes, Black Magic brakes with Centric Premium rotors will do great. They are some of the best pads you can get for our jeeps. Heres a link if you are interested: Jeep Wranger (TJ) 1997 - 1999 Front Brake Package

Since you do not do hard Offroad add the BL and you can run 35's as long as you are not running 3.07 gears. I'm running 35's with 3.73 gears for time being and you lose 5th gear until you reach 60mph. For a daily driver though you should be fine. All the other additions would be great but not necessary for what you do. Of course with any mods you do you are taking a chance.

Its dangerous for yourself and other drivers on the road to run stock brakes with 35" tires. Do you have a Dana 35 or Dana 44 rear end? If its a Dana 35, even if you only stay on the road it has a very high chance of snapping with hard acceleration or an improper shift (if you have a manual)

It is a 35. And I have 2 friends that have run and wheeled 35's on stock for over 2 yrs and no problems. It's not a drag car! While anything is possible it's about how you drive.

the stock tie-rod is not up to 35's either. at least upgrade to a ZJ tierod

Thanks! I like the look of the sliders as well. Few of my friends have them. Those black magic brakes aren't as much as I imagined they would be. Also, any way to upgrade the drum brakes?

you really dont need to, 80% of your braking comes from the front and the black magic brakes will stop your rig with no issues. I was amazed at how poor the stock ones were after the upgrade

Ok, thanks. I just went and looked at my rear diff cover. The tag on it says 3.73.... then it had 4 other numbers, what I could make out on them was 6584.

Ok, that means you have 3.73 gearing. Manual or automatic transmission? The automatic would probably be struggling a bit staying at highway speeds with stock gearing and 35's.

Is going with 33" tires an option for you? The money saved could go towards other upgrades that may be better for you, maybe more stuff for looks since it will be on the road most of the time? 35's sure do change the look and make it a bit meaner though.

MosesTJ glad to hear those Dana 35's are holding up for you. They seem to be total crapshoots. Some last years on 33's (like mine did) and some snap on 31's. I now enjoy running trails as hard as I want and never worrying about my Dana 44. A little piece of mind.

I'm debating tire sizes really. There's some guys around here that have 35s on their tj and I like it a lot. This is my first Jeep and I've never had tires larger than the 31s I've got now so I'm a noob when it comes to going larger.

Why not stick with 33's and spend the money saved on some sweet fenders, rock sliders, and other cool stuff? You won't have to Regear and will save money on gas

Here's my jeep on 33's and a 3.5" lift.

That's a sweet Jeep you've got there. Those look bigger than 33s. I guess its because the white letters aren't showing. Now you've really got me thinking about the 33s

3 in suspension and 1.25 bl. With 33s. Just another motivater pic to go with 33s, itll save you from having to upgrade tons of stuff and will get you a little better mpg with your stock gears. Btw nice jeep! And welcome!

I'm new here too and have done a TON of reading/research for my LJ. Even tho I have the Dana 44's front and rear, 33's are the way to go unless you have deep pockets to do ALL the upgrades suggested above.
My plan is to do 33's with a 1.5 inch spacer, which I'm told gives the illusion of larger tires (maybe not fool the offroad pro's, but the average gawker).

And from what I understand, the 33's will get me damn near anywhere I need to go with a 3" suspension lift (trails, not rock crawling). I haven't bothered looking at pricing, but can only imagine there is a significant increase in tire price.

Thanks for the input. I'm still gonna do some more research. But y'all have swayed me towards 33's. You guys have some pretty sick TJ's on 33s, I was afraid of it not looking like much change when I went from 31s to 33s. Also, have any of you guys had the General Grabber AT2s? Those are the tires I'm looking at because the BFG AT tires are a bit pricey.

How difficult was the mml? Did you have to use the t-case relocation bracket on the bl?

I used brown dog MML, it was not terrible but I had to undo the 3"BL the PO had so that sucked. I did use TC drop because if 4"sL.

Yes,withe the BL and MML I still needed the TC drop. I will get SYE and DS in the future but I still have plenty of clearance with the TC drop.

Are you doing highlife fenders or no offloading? I have just under 6" and almost scrub on flex. How about pics?

Yeah, I'm going to cut my fenders to make it that flat look. I didn't lose fifth gear actually, I feel like it drives much better. It's by far much smoother ride with the ATs compared to MTs. It rained most of the day today, I'll have some pics up tomorrow!
