New water pump and now there is a ticking noise

We just replaced the waterpump on our 2001 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L. It had been leaking fluid. We purchased a new waterpump at Advance and installed it this weekend. After everything is put back together, the engine is now making a ticking noise after the Jeep warms up. It sounds like when you are moving a refrigerator and it is rattling inside. Does anyone have any thoughts on what it might be???

Poor mechanics stethoscope, take a BIG straight screw driver(bigger the better) , place it on various places like the water pump body, belt tensioner, etc. Place the plastic end/handle of the driver in your ear while you are touching the spots. It will concentrate and magnify what ever part is making the noise. Just be careful around the moving parts.

One thing to keep in mind about Autozone's (and similar chain auto parts stores) is that their store brand Chinese-made water pumps are, generally, shoddily constructed. Their "Lifetime Warranty" in no way means they are a high quality product, they are not. I wouldn't doubt you got one of the bad ones that so commonly make it to the store shelf.

Since my TJ gets out into the boondocks so much where I need a high degree of reliability for everything, I wouldn't run a store brand water pump. To me, there are some commonly replaced components I won't go with a store brand for.... alternators, starters, or water pumps. The slight added cost for OE quality is worth it to me.

LOL I was at Advance today. Guy in front of me bought a motor mount. He opened the box and pulled the mount out. IN TWO PIECES!!!!!! The rubber had un-bonded from half the mount. Nice brand spanking new part.
