Angry New xrc8 winch doesnt work

I went to four wheel parts today and got a deal on 2 smittybilt xrc8 winches and 2 mounting plates for a tj. one for me and one for my friend. I installed the winch and the thing wont do anything. I am frustrated because the thing is brand new! I got 12volts at the cable coming from the battery but nothing else has power. Any winch gurus out there that could help me? I really need this thing to work when I need.

well I still couldn't get it to work so I opened the box of the other winch I got my friend and borrowed the solenoid box and it works perfect now. I am going monday to exchange the other winch for a new one. How does a brand new solenoid not work? im thinking it could be a loose wire or a bad crimp at a connector. I must say installing a winch is one of the easiest things to do. It can easily be done in less than an hour. So far I like the winch a lot, it's line speed is a lot faster than I thought, and the overall quality seems good. Hopefully this winch doesn't mess up like the other one. Now I just have to explain to my friend that his brand new winch doesnt work and I have to take it back.

I am using the factory bumper and a smittybilt winch plate. The winch plate is very nice quality. It's very thick and fits perfect. The price is $69. I got it for 60 cause I bought two.

yeah thats what I did because I really didn't want to change the whole winch so I just swapped solenoids. That would be messed up if I didnt say anything and just gave my friend a busted winch though . He lives an hour away so hopefully I will have the issue resolved before he comes to Charlotte Wednesday. He thought the whole thing was funny for some reason.

Well I got the beer and ended up just hanging out at a friends house and dragging the jeep though his yard a few times with the parking brake on. It was pretty fun but I want to actually go off road. So i might go to Uwharrie today.
