Newb test drive question

I test drove a 2003 Sport, 5 spd today. Looks and runs good. I tested out the 4wd and when I engaged 4 High, no dash light came on. I felt the 4wd engage, and it works. I disengaged and engaged again, still no light. The owner said he couldn't recall ever seeing a light on the dash. Aren't all modern jeeps supposed to have a 4wd indicator light?

I would think that this is a light or sensor not working since the 4wd does work. Is this something fairly common? I am strongly considering buying this TJ, but this does concern me.

common issue. Its the 4wd sensor attached to your xcase. Its a 20 dollar part and a 5 minute repair.

Mine has not come on for years. I like it better that way. How can you forget you have it in 4WD.

On mine the 4wd light doesn't come on...but i do get an orange "part time" light when I'm in 4hi and 4lo. But yeah, as mentioned...common issue.
