I have recently bought a stock 2005 TJ Sport Unlimited (2Door).. Auto trans, Dana 44 trac Loc rear diff, command trac 3.73 part time 4wd axle ratio. 15x8 "ravine" alum wheels, 30x95x15 Michelin xcx/apt tires. Tires are about 50% tread
Wife and I plan to tow it behind our Class C motor home. We have the tow parts covered... We are long time ATV/UTV'ers having mostly ridden alpine loop areas around Lake City/Creede/Silverton/Ouray in SW Colorado. Red River in New Mexico, Cuchara in SE CO. Lake Murray and Davis in SC OK, and a family farm in SC Texas over the years.
What would be good mods for jeeping in these areas? I believe we need bigger tires, and perhaps a lift of some sort to accommodate the tires. We won't be rock crawlers or mudders.... Mostly mild to moderate trail riders... Following our young adult kids on ATV's while granny and I bring the little ones along in the Jeep. Oh yes, in addition to towing duties, this will be my daily driver.
1. What kind of mild lift do you recommend... I am fairly wrench savvy.
2. What tires do you recommend for a mix of daily driver/tow/moderate 4x4 (size and brand)
3. Is there an el cheapo soft top option? This Jeep has a hard top, we will probably go topless when we ride... But, rain happens, we need a cheap alternative when trail riding.
Thanks, I have learned a lot from trolling your forum.
