Newbie looking for advice

Hi all. I've been reading this site for a few months now and have decided to just join up. I have been wanting a Wrangler for some time now and with spring coming up I'm ready to make the plunge. I'm looking for something that coud be an everyday driver. But I only work 3 days a week and its all highway. I have a small fiberglass boat that I would like to take out to the lake every once in a while also. I haven't looked much into offroading but I sure I will do a bit of it.

I've found a 97 wrangler Sahara for $9100 with 150,317 miles. But it has had a new engine and tranny put in it withing the last 15,000 miles. Everything looks to be in good maintaine condition. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and what else I should look at since the engine and tranny was swapped out. Thanks in advance.

My biggest concerns would be the quality of the swap. Definitely would want to have a mechanic check that out. The other thing that jumps out is what rear axel does it have and what gearing? 33's on a d35 is a problem waiting to happen. Was everything done correctly to run 33's? What lift is it running, did they install a cv/sye to correct driveline angles from the lift? Do some further research on this forum and others before buying a modified rig.. If you don't know how things are supposed to be done then how will you know if it is wrong before you buy it.

i think this one is a bad choice for what you described your use will be. plus, the price seems about $2k-$3k too high based on the info in the ad.

Thanks for the info. I had asked the seller a lot of questions earlier just waiting for a response. My main concern is what does it do to value when you do replace the motor. I'm only interested in the jeep I posted. I just wanted to get others feedback on it. Could you elaborate on why you think it's a bad choice? Towing or driving wise?

For the type of driving you're looking to do (with the occasional towing), that Wrangler is set up wrong. That thing will eat you out of house and home in gas (not that Wrangler owners mind that too much) with the 33s.

Squid brings up very valid points about the D35 and the 33s not being a good match if, in fact is has a Dana 35 up front and/or in back.

The lift has to be done correctly in order for the Wrangler to handle correctly and if it isn't then it becomes your headache.

The price is too high even with the mods and the new powertrain. Mods typically yield a return of maybe, maybe 33%.

My advice would be to keep searching. If it were me, I'd look for the least modified Wrangler I could find and then build it to your liking, not someone else's.
