Wink Newbie with no heat

Hi, y'all..I'm new, and as such have actually posted 3x in 3 different places and have been directed here. I have a 2000 wrangler sport 4.0, does that make me a TJ..sorry for sounding retired but I just want to be in right place, (actually AM retired). I also have a 1997 grand cherokee, love'm both. Used to drive the big guy in winter (needs work) and now am too attached to sporty. Guess I just like all the attention when an "older woman"climbs out, ha ha some think I should trade him in for a slower, lower "vee hicle" but nuh uh.
I had posted re: cardboard in front of radiator issue, think I got my answer but if anyone wants to add...I like this forum, you folks are great. apologies and thanks in advance

Welcome. Is the engine getting warm? The gauge should read just under 210 when fully warmed up.

newbie with no heat

thanks for reply...my temp gauge used to go straight up to middle. Now on a cold start it will go to under 1/4 and stay there and blow warm(used to blow so hot real soon that I always had to turn on & off) If i stop like at a store, upon restart it will go up farther, say 1/4th then after a few mins go back down to below and stay. I topped with straght coolant, could it be too strong, also noticed it is dirty now but I changed radiator & thermostat 2 yrs ago!!?? thanks so much thought of trying cardboard

IMO it needs coolant system flushed---including heater core.

thanks, I figured I'd need at least that but with no garage and snow was hoping to put it off. Will try cardboard for now since flush kit, etc is in storage 70 miles away.
Boy, I sure got to figure out how to navigate this forum and upload sporty's pic

With the gauge staying so low, sounds like it's time for a new thermostat. The cardboard will work, just keep an eye on the temp so it doesn't get too hot.

x2

usually a stuck open thermostat will cause you to have a lack of heat after warm up

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open, which is much better than stuck closed. It probably needed the cooling sys flushed a couple seasons ago. You might get it working again w/ a flush, but it needs replaced ASAP. A cold engine will also drink more gas!
