NJ Inspection

Going for my two year NJ State inspection tomorrow. Need to disconnect the air horns and hook up the factory POS, make the driving lights NJ legal (go off with the high beams), Make sure the new windshield does not get cracked on the way and it passes emissions. Anything else is gravy to fix.

that stuff should be all you need. i hate inspections, but i find that if you go at the very end of the month it is super busy and the inspectors let little stuff slide so that they can push you out the door and go on to the next car.

Two years ago they failed me for rear brake equalization, I adjusted them and went back a few times and the guy finally asked me if I was doing it myself and I said yes and he passed me.

I actually failed twice for my tires sticking out past the fenders at Southampton. Went to Flemington and passed no questions asked! Be careful because they're apparently cutting down on what they're letting pass through.

That said, it surprises me how many states have to go to private inspection stations and pay for an inspection. What is that?

It's nice that you do not have to pay but to avoid the hassle with the Jeep, I coin up to pay at my neighbor's shop and avoid any issues. When i go the Jeep a few years ago and went to the Cherry Hill station, they nit picked everything (windshield lights, wheels, mud flaps.....). I rolled out of there and right to a private station for a sticker.

i know pa is a pita. my sister-in-law is in pa and every year it costs them at least $500 in repairs just to pass. the mechanics find every possible issue and force you to get it fixed before they will pass you. this year my brother-in-law needed to have his yukon repaired right before inspection, he took it to an nj mechanic for the repair and had him look over the truck to see if there was anything he would fail for. the mechanic said no, and offered to take it to the inspection for him so that if they tried to rake him over the coals he could rebut the the claims. needless to say, he passed without an extra repair bill.

That is a potential down side about private stations. They have insentive to find things wrong. Some may be legit but......it is too easy to rip people off.

WOW, the place was empty. No line....

Well they didn't like my headlights, they have a blue tint to them. I thought they may fail me for too bright, 100 watt bulbs, in place of the crappy sealed beams. Well, those are going back in and then back out later today. Passed emissions which was my big worry.

Good for 2 more years. Hooray!!!!

OP'er ... im surprised they would check your lights and horn lol i have air horns and my fogs are wired to stay on when the high beams are on and they didn't think twice about it. I live in southern new jersey and go to Winslow so that might be a big factor lol im just surprised

Gotta love NJ and its endless book of laws and regulations

I guess it all depends on how much the individual inspector knows the law. This guy even said to me when I showed him how to turn on the fogs that as long as they go off with the high beams thats all that counts.

Still cannot understand the blue light issue, they were blueish and not like those HID's.

Oh well, water over the dam for 2 years.
